MORE ABOUT OUR STORY

Stavick Simmental is a family owned and operated cattle operation managed by Mike Stavick and his family. Mike and his wife, Myra, purchased the home place in 1997, headquartered 3 miles south of Veblen, SD. Located on the Coteau Hills of northeast South Dakota, the ranch straddles the line between wild Dakota grassland and productive farmland. Despite being first generation ranchers, the couple chose to raise their two children, Owen and Liv, while pursuing their dream of selling Simmental/SimAngus cattle.
Twenty years later, that dream has become a 2,500 acre spread of land and a quality cowherd of 300 registered black and red Simmental cows; not to mention, a second generation thrilled to continue using the M\S brand and the values it was built on. Owen, second in command, bounces back and forth from a job at a nearby feedlot and the family operation. He plays a critical role in breeding decisions, calving, and preparing for the bull sale. Liv and her husband, Gordon, live in Sidney, MT and spearhead the marketing side of the business from afar. They come back to South Dakota regularly to provide an extra set of hands.
The Stavick family’s passion is providing problem-free cattle that are guaranteed to improve the commercial cattlemen’s bottom line; maximize growth while still maintaining an average calving ease and focus on maternally-driven traits. Their program is performance and data driven. Since its inception, Stavick Simmental has qualified as an ASA Performance Advocate (PA) for consistently submitting data on six different traits: calving ease, birth weight, weaning weight, yearling weight, yearling hip height and ultrasound data. Stavick Simmental expects well-rounded excellence within their own herd so that they can guarantee the same to their customers.
